  1. What is your name and position at Green Acres Foundation?

    Andrean – Licensed Practical Nurse

  2. How long have you worked for Green Acres Foundation?

    9 ½ years

  3. How long have you been a nurse?

    12 years

  4. Why did you choose to become a nurse and work in healthcare?

I chose nursing because I enjoy caring for people and having the opportunity to contribute to peoples lives in a meaningful way. I love that the profession has so many different career paths/areas in which I can venture into. I love that there is always continued education as things evolve.

  5. What is the most rewarding part about your job?

It is most rewarding knowing that I have made a positive impact in residents’ lives and the lives of their families, regardless of their circumstances, challenges, health conditions and the life stages they are in when I meet them.

  6. What do you enjoy most about working with seniors?

I enjoy working with seniors because they have usually lived long, full and fascinating lives. Their memories give beautiful insight into a different time and some have played vital roles in history (the world wars, for example) and survived many different historical events. It’s fascinating hearing the differences between their time and now - the changes in the means of communication, travel etc. It is such a great pleasure meeting them and their families. They have a wealth of knowledge and experiences to share and I am grateful to have the privilege of hearing about them and learning from them while getting to know them on a deeper level, contributing to and playing a vital part of the present aspect of their lives.

  7. Nurses Week is May 8 – May 14. Is there anything you would like to highlight during this week?

Nursing can sometimes be a thankless job. It can be risky and can take a physical, mental and emotional toll on people in the profession. To all the healthcare providers that choose to do this every day, selflessly caring for individuals despite the profession’s challenges and risks: A sincere and heartfelt thank you for all you do! :)
