Rebuilding Piyami Lodge in Picture Butte
$5.8 Million Allocated to Green Acres Foundation Senior Community
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lethbridge, AB — Wednesday, May 13, 2026 — The Government of Alberta has announced a new investment in affordable housing for seniors through the Seniors Lodge Modernization Program. A total of $5.8 million will be allocated to rebuild Green Acres Foundation’s Piyami Lodge in the rural community of Picture Butte.
The existing building, constructed in 1979, will be demolished and replaced with a new two-story seniors’ living community. Construction is set to begin later in 2026, with official sod turning at a later date. Once completed, the new senior living community will increase capacity from 32 to 50 suites, helping meet the growing demand for seniors’ housing in the Picture Butte area.
Piyami Lodge is a part of the Picture Butte Campus of Care Model, which is the first of its kind in the province, offering a continuum of services that allows seniors to age in place within their community. This model includes lodge living with meals, supportive living with 24/7 personal care, higher-level supported living with 24/7 nursing coverage, and an on site health centre featuring a physician clinic and home care services.
Green Acres Foundation which operates the facility, was awarded the Best of Butte Non-Profit Award by the Picture Butte Chamber of Commerce in 2024. The Foundation looks forward to continuing to provide quality service to seniors in Picture Butte for years to come with this new development.
“Seniors have made enormous contributions to the communities we live in today, and they deserve housing that reflects that. By investing more than $200 million to modernize and expand seniors lodges, Alberta’s government is helping ensure seniors can continue living in the communities they helped build, with the comfort, dignity and support they deserve.” – Jason Nixon, Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services
“We appreciate the grant funding from the Provincial Government for the development of a new facility in Picture Butte at Piyami Lodge. Investments from Green Acres Foundation and other community partners will allow Picture Butte and area residents to remain close to family, friends, and the place they call home while accessing housing with the care and support they deserve.” – Lorne Hickey, Board Chair of Green Acres Foundation
“For 47 years, Piyami Lodge has supported seniors in the Picture Butte community. This redevelopment marks an important step forward in ensuring it continues to be a safe, comfortable, and modern place for seniors to call home for generations to come.” – Dawna Coslovi, CEO of Green Acres Foundation
